Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice president and is the highest-ranking female official in U.S history. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017 and was the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. From 2017 until 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported healthcare reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens, the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. She was well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
